Abortionist Murdered At His Church?

I heard this story on CNN and I just busted out laughing.  I couldn't help myself.

Dr. George Tiller, who remained one of the nation's few providers of late-term abortions despite decades of protests and attacks, was shot and killed Sunday in a church where he was serving as an usher.

The gunman fled, but a 51-year-old suspect was arrested some 170 miles away in suburban Kansas City three hours after the shooting, Wichita Deputy Police Chief Tom Stolz said.

The abortionist went to CHURCH?  Are you kidding me?

[...] The slaying of the 67-year-old doctor is "an unspeakable tragedy," his widow, four children and 10 grandchildren said in statement.

He takes the lives of little babies day in and day out as a career, and his family has the gall to call HIS killing the "unspeakable tragedy"?  Oh boy.  That's really rich.

QUESTIONS:

• Is it possible that the alleged perpetrator just some new specialized abortionist who performs really really really late term procedures? 
• Assuming Tiller's mother still lives and indicated this was her "choice", would it be legal?
• What kind of church allows a man who liquifies the brains of living babies to become a member?
• How ridiculous is it that the parishoners at such a church suddenly become horrified when death is dealt in their presence, after embracing the man who was doing even worse to helpless unborn children at his "workplace" for all those years?
• What kind of mental gymnastics, or feats of super human denial, are required for a man who performs partial birth abortions to think that God could possibly welcome him at the heavenly gates?
• Could this be proof that God works in mysterious ways and didn't really like this guy coming to his church in the first place?

I say good riddance to this man, and the church members probably got what they deserved too.  Maybe they'll rethink their hypocrisy after finally seeing blood spilt that they can't simply turn a blind eye to.

P.S. The only reason I was on CNN was that I was doing an autoscan to look for new channels on my cable service.  Otherwise I wouldn't be caught dead watching it.

I was fortunate enough to be invited to an advance screening of Pixar's new movie "Up" this evening, and I can say without hesitation that this is one of the best, if not the very best, Pixar movies ever produced.  Go see it, you will not be disappointed.  Cross my heart.

Coulter Chimes In On Sotomayor

And it's brilliant as usual.

After President Barack Obama announced his empathetic Supreme Court nominee this week, Judge Sonia Sotomayor, we found out that some people are more deserving of empathy than others.

For example, Judge Sotomayor apparently "empathized" more with New Haven, Conn., government officials than with white and Hispanic firefighters who were denied promotions by the city on the basis of their race.

Let's hope she's as empathetic to New Haven residents who die in fires fought by inferior firefighters as a result of her decision.

Sonia Sotomayor: White Men Can't Judge

Obama's Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor in 2001:

“I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion [as a judge] than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”

So, in her opinion, white men cannot have a "richness of experience" and are genetically incapable of making good decisions about the law.  Some lefties will try to spin this as if it's not racist, but SHE chose to use the word "better", not "different", and thinking one person is better than another based on their race is, by definition, racism.  Not to mention that her supposition is utter bullshit.

This bit from The National Journal found via Hot Air makes the hypocrisy clear as day.

So accustomed have we become to identity politics that it barely causes a ripple when a highly touted Supreme Court candidate, who sits on the federal Appeals Court in New York, has seriously suggested that Latina women like her make better judges than white males.

Indeed, unless Sotomayor believes that Latina women also make better judges than Latino men, and also better than African-American men and women, her basic proposition seems to be that white males (with some exceptions, she noted) are inferior to all other groups in the qualities that make for a good jurist.

Any prominent white male would be instantly and properly banished from polite society as a racist and a sexist for making an analogous claim of ethnic and gender superiority or inferiority.

Imagine the reaction if someone had unearthed in 2005 a speech in which then-Judge Samuel Alito had asserted, for example:

“I would hope that a white male with the richness of his traditional American values would reach a better conclusion than a Latina woman who hasn’t lived that life”

Exactly.  The Democrats and mainstream media MSM/DNC Cabal would be apoplectic if Justice Alito had said something like this, which just proves the point.  There is one set of standards for liberals, and an entirely different set for conservatives.

The problem with this reasoning is it implicitly accepts the logic (made for years by white racists) that there is something essential and unifying running through all white people, everywhere. But White--as we know it--is a word so big that, as a descriptor of experience, it almost doesn't exist.

Indeed, it's claims are preposterous. It seeks to lump the miner in Eastern Kentucky, the Upper West Side Jew, the yuppie in Seattle, the Irish Catholic in South Boston, the hipster in Brooklyn, the Cuban-American in Florida, or even the Mexican-American in California all together, and erase the richness of their experience, by marking the bag "White."

Time To Update My "US Congress To Do List"?

It may be about time to update my Congress Of The United States Of America To Do List graphic, as it appears we are about to move a little farther down the road towards the econopocalypse.

From Bloomberg:

The dollar extended declines today after Treasuries and American stocks slumped on concern the U.S. government’s debt rating may at some point be lowered. Bill Gross, the co-chief investment officer of Pacific Investment Management Co., said the U.S. “eventually” will lose its AAA grade.

From Reuters:

The dollar fell to a 2009 low on Friday as fears intensified that the United States could lose its triple-A rating, while renewed caution about the world economy and banks prompted Asian and European stocks to slip.

The dollar's latest decline started when ratings agency Standard & Poor's cut its ratings outlook on Britain to negative from stable, stoking fears other AAA-rated countries which are running huge debt levels could share a similar fate.

Moody's Investor Service said on Thursday it was comfortable with its triple-A sovereign rating on the United States but that it was not guaranteed forever.

"The main issues are related to yesterday's movement on fears that the U.S. might lose its triple-A rating," said Roberto Mialich, FX strategist at Unicredit in Milan.

And here's Obama today in an interview with CSPAN's Steve Scully:

SCULLY: You know the numbers, $1.7 trillion debt, a national deficit of $11 trillion. At what point do we run out of money?

OBAMA: Well, we are out of money now. We are operating in deep deficits, not caused by any decisions we've made on health care so far. This is a consequence of the crisis that we've seen and in fact our failure to make some good decisions on health care over the last several decades.

Of course, of course... it's ALL because we don't have universal health care.  It has nothing to do with the fact that this entire crisis was caused by Democrats forcing an affirmative action scheme on the lending industry , it has nothing to do with American's desire to live above their means and their politicians fear of saying no, it has nothing to do with reckless spending in Washington for decades, it all because Republicans wouldn't let the Democrats nationalize the health care industry.

What a jackass.  I'd be open to this concept Mr. Obama if you could show me ONE major federal government entitlement program that's ever reduced costs on it's own, or even kept it's growth under the rate of inflation.  These programs ALWAYS grow year after year and spiral out of control, so it's ridiculous that the Democrats to keep pointing to federal control of health care as a way to pay for all their pork barrel spending.

It's never worked, and it never will work.  Obama is spewing this fantasy just to buy some time so he can continue following the plan Rahm Emanuel let slip just after Obama won the election:

"You never want a serious crisis to go to waste, and what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things that you didn't think you could do before."

BOTTOM LINE:

Nationalizing healthcare will not fix our economic situation, and Obama knows that, but our economic crisis may allow the Democrats to finally "fix" healthcare, so until they gain control over the healthcare industry there will be no serious effort to fix the economy.

Buckle up.  It's going to be a bumpy ride.

I was really conflicted about this week's babe post.  Actress Jeri Ryan is undoubtedly one of the hottest ladies on the planet, but she's also partly to blame for the election of Barack Obama.

Most famous for her role as the voluptuous cyborg Seven Of Nine on the TV series Star Trek Voyager, the lovely Mrs. Ryan was once married to Chicago investment banker Jack Ryan, who five years after their divorce, decided to run for the US Senate.

In a bizzare decision, a judge went against both Jeri and her ex-husband's wishes, unsealing the records of their custody battle, including testimony by Jeri that her husband took her to sex clubs and asked her to perform sex acts there.  Mr. Ryan was forced to withdraw his candidacy at the last minute, thereby paving the way for the ascension of Obama, a.k.a. The Annointed One.

Obama Screws Up Auto Industry & Kills People

The White House has announced new standards for automobile fuel efficiency that will force automakers to make all cars smaller, force dramatic increases in the price of trucks and vans, and cause thousands more people to die in small car collisions each year that would have been survivable in a larger vehicle.  All this in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint of American automobiles.

[...] soccer moms will have to give up hulking SUVs.

You only THINK your family of 5 and two dogs needs a mini van.  Obama knows better.

And "hulking"?  Way to be unbiased Mr. Reporter.

Carpenters will still haul materials around in pickup trucks, but they will cost more.

[...] the changes will make pickup trucks so much more expensive that they will be used almost exclusively for work.

You will soon pay a lot more for any service that requires tools or materials to be brought to your home.  The cost of plumbing, flooring, landscaping work etc. is going to increase.  You will also no longer be able to pick up materials for home and garden DIY projects, but instead will have to pay extra for on-site delivery.

[...] developing the technology will cost money - billions of dollars - and automakers will pass that on to their customers.

The Obama administration says the changes mean the average vehicle would cost about $1,300 more, although some private analysts say the increase will be much heftier.

All new vehicles are going to cost more, and that's not even factoring in inflation.

Automakers have said they need stable, relatively high gasoline prices to create a market for electric vehicles.

And since the government is now heavily invested in the automobile industry do you think they won't get it?  Taxes on gasoline are going to skyrocket in order to subsidize the success of this boondoggle.  The new federal-automobile complex is simply too big to fail.

The National Academy of Sciences has linked mileage standards with about 2,000 deaths per year. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that every 100-pound reduction in the weight of small cars increases annual traffic fatalities by as much as 715.

In contrast in the more than six years since the Iraq war began, there have been 4,296 deaths among American military personnel.

2,000 deaths per year would equate to nearly three times the American fatalaties in the liberation of Iraq.  Do you think we'll see Code Pink and MoveOn.org protesting the lives lost to this legislation?  Somehow I doubt it.  Will the mainstream media MSM/DNC Cabal even report on the cost of Obama's decision in human lives?  Unlikely, and certainly not to the extent they hype "global warming" and all this green hysteria.

So, to summarize:

• We will have less choice (freedom).
• We will pay more for all vehicles.
• We will pay more for fuel.
• We will pay more for in-home services and delivered goods.
• We will be able to do less work for ourselves.
• We will see thousands more Americans die on the roads each year.
• All this just so we can reduce US auto emissions (which account for a tiny percentage of the humanity's "carbon footprint", which is in turn dwarfed by the Earth's natural "carbon footprint") in hopes of forestalling man made "global warming" which may end up being the greatest hoax in the history of mankind.

Is it worth it?

It doesn't matter.  Democrats are not "reality based".  Their good intentions are all that matter.

UPDATE: Oh, I forgot to mention that all these increased costs are ON TOP of the $640 billion "carbon tax" coming in Waxman-Markey, and the inevitable tax increases needed to cover Obama's unprecedented 10 TRILLION dollar budget.

The Missing Link?

Not THE missing link I suppose, but certainly A missing link.  From The Wall Street Journal:

In what could prove to be a landmark discovery, a leading paleontologist said scientists have dug up the 47 million-year-old fossil of an ancient primate whose features suggest it could be the common ancestor of all later monkeys, apes and humans.

Anthropologists have long believed that humans evolved from ancient ape-like ancestors. Some 50 million years ago, two ape-like groups walked the Earth. One is known as the tarsidae, a precursor of the tarsier, a tiny, large-eyed creature that lives in Asia. Another group is known as the adapidae, a precursor of today's lemurs in Madagascar.

Based on previously limited fossil evidence, one big debate had been whether the tarsidae or adapidae group gave rise to monkeys, apes and humans. The latest discovery bolsters the less common position that our ancient ape-like ancestor was an adapid, the believed precursor of lemurs.

It's always nice to see the boundaries of human understanding pushed back a bit.  This is certainly a big deal for paleontologists.

Five Steps Towards A Republican Comeback

Mark Amagi has a great post over at GM's Place called Is The Republican Party Really Conservative? diagnosing what ailes the conservative movement.  Towards the end he lists these 5 steps we can take towards recovering our mojo.

1. We must be the party of liberty and freedom, including economic freedom, and we must be in favor of limited government and oppose statism in all its forms. 
2. A limited government is a government of laws, the Rule of Law, and not of men, which is the opposite of Obama’s vision of the law. When Obama states that he wants Supreme Court Judges who have “empathy” for minorities, he is arguing for applying the law unequally, and privileging certain members of society to the detriment of others. 
3. We must fight the Marxist political correctness movement in our schools and universities. We’re already losing the next generation by a margin of 2:1. We are losing the Cultural War to the left: we lost the universities, the schools, and the media, all the organs of cultural transmission. What the Republican leadership seems to have overlooked is that you can’t stay in power politically if you lose the culture. Today, the left attacks with impunity Western Civilization, America, Christianity, and now, even the goose that laid the golden egg, capitalism. And that’s not all; our liberal institutions of freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and academic freedom are also under attack by the left. To counter this, we must stand up for American and Western values, and the freedom to speak our opposition to the leftist orthodoxy. 
4. We must continue to advocate a pro-American foreign and domestic policy: America First politically and economically, in opposition to the left’s Anti-Americanism. To me, this means that we do not promote global free trade and open borders when the result is that the average American loses his job to foreign competition and cheap labor. Adam Smith did not promote the idea that a free market nation should tolerate huge trade deficits. We must also continue to oppose Islamic fascism and terrorism both at home and abroad. 
5. We must advocate the reformation of our monetary and financial system, with sound currency and curtail the ability of the Federal Reserve and banks to create fiat money out of thin air.

When E-mail Goes Wrong

A Minneapolis couple decided to go to Florida to thaw out during a particularly icy winter.  They planned to stay at the same hotel where they spent their honeymoon 20 years earlier.

Because of hectic schedules, it was difficult to coordinate their travel schedules, so the husband left Minnesota and flew to Florida on Thursday, with his wife flying down the following day.

The husband checked into the hotel.  There was a computer in his room, so he decided to send an e-mail to his wife.  However, he accidentally left out one letter in her address, and without realizing his error, sent the message.

Meanwhile, somewhere in Houston, a widow had just returned home from her husband's funeral.  He was a minister who was called home to glory following a heart attack.

The widow decided to check her e-mail expecting messages from relatives and friends, but after reading the first message, she screamed and fainted.  The widow's son rushed into the room, found his mother on the floor, and saw the computer screen which read:

TO:  My Loving Wife
SUBJECT:  I've Arrived
DATE:  October 16, 2007

I know you're surprised to hear from me.  They have computers here now and you are allowed to send e-mails to your loved ones.

I've just arrived and have been checked in, and I see that everything has been prepared for your arrival tomorrow.

Looking forward to seeing you then.  Hope your journey is as uneventful as mine was.

Obama Double Talk At Notre Dame

Liberals don't want to listen to conservatives, they just mouth this type of B.S. for John Q. Public while they tell conservatives to shut up.

The Way They SHOULD Have Roasted Obama

The Kingdom

I can remember hearing about "The Kingdom" when it first hit the theaters and thinking to myself "what's the chance they made a straightforward thriller set in Saudi Arabia without being politically correct and making the bad guys Americans, or businessmen like Halliburton? ... ZERO chance." so I never bothered to go see it.  After all, just look at the cinematic abortion they'd just made of Tom Clancy's book "The Sum Of All Fears", changing the Arab nuclear terrorists into an insane neo-Nazi cabal.  How ridiculous, and how insulting coming right after 3,000 of our fellow citizens had been slaughtered by real terrorists, not crazy Hitler groupies.

Fast forward a year or so and I'm hearing good things on the blogs about how this movie "The Kingdom" was the real deal, and that the director didn't pull any punches.  Well, I picked it up on DVD today and just finished watching it, and I'm echoing those same sentiments.  "The Kingdom" rocked my socks off. 

How refreshing to watch a movie with terrorists that are actually like the real ones... you know, Muslim.  How refreshing to see Muslim heroes fighting alongside our own to stop the terrorists and bring peace to their own homeland, just like in Iraq.  This movie hit all the right notes.  Great action, great plot, some twists and curves to keep you guessing.  Go get it.  You won't be sorry.

Obama And The Democrats Set To Destroy What Remains Of US Economy

Democrats are not reality based...  To liberals all that matters is their so-called "good intentions", the results of their policies are irrelevant.

Case in point: Obama's proposed changes to the US tax code regarding revenue from overseas operations.

The White House is spinning this move as "going after offshore tax cheats" or "taking away the incentives to outsource", but in reality it is an incredible blow to the profitability of US companies doing business around the globe.

Right now the US has what's called "territorial taxation", meaning companies pay taxes on profits earned within our territories.  The changes Obama's proposing amount to "global taxation", meaning US companies will pay taxes on all their income, no mater where it was earned, and most importantly no mater how much it's already been taxed.

I saw this example in a YouTube video, but I can't find it now, so I'll just lay out some numbers and a chart here to make the point.

Let's compare two hypothetical global corporations, one based in the US, and one based in the Netherlands.  They both have operations in Hong Kong, Mexico and Ireland generating $100 million each.  All three of those countries will tax the revenue generated within their borders, let's say 16% in Hong Kong, 12½% in Ireland, and 13% in Mexico.

So far the two companies are returning $258 million each to their home countries. but only the US company is subject to additional domestic taxation on overseas revenue, and here's where the US company really suffers.

Take a look at the HUGE difference in profits between the two companies!  The Dutch company will have TWICE the profits, just because of this change Obama is contemplating.

US corporations are aleady struggling under the second highest tax burden in the globe and the Democrats don't think they are paying ENOUGH?

Add this lunacy to the proposed $640 BILLION stealth tax increase known as "cap-and-trade" or Waxman-Markey and you've got a recipe to kill MILLIONS of US jobs and cause many of America's most successful corporations to dramatically downsize or move all of their operations overseas.

Why would the Democrats want to do that?  Because they are not reality based, and neither are the people who vote for them.  The left wants it's revenge on the shiboleth it has created in so-called "greedy corporations" and "big business" and it is about to cut off it's own nose to spite it's face, and there's nothing we can do to stop it.

UPDATE: Indiana Senator Mitch Daniels calls the cap-and-trade regime nothing more than blue state imperialism:

The Waxman-Markey legislation would more than double electricity bills in Indiana. Years of reform in taxation, regulation and infrastructure-building would be largely erased at a stroke. In recent years, Indiana has led the nation in capturing international investment, repatriating dollars spent on foreign goods or oil and employing Americans with them. Waxman-Markey seems designed to reverse that flow. “Closed: Gone to China” signs would cover Indiana’s stores and factories.

Our state’s share of national income has been slipping for decades, but it is offset in part by living costs some 8% lower than the national average. Doubled utility bills for low-income Hoosiers would be an especially cruel consequence of the Waxman bill. Forgive us for not being impressed at danglings of welfare-like repayments to some of those still employed, with some fraction of the dollars extracted from our state.

And for what? No honest estimate pretends to suggest that a U.S. cap-and-trade regime will move the world’s thermometer by so much as a tenth of a degree a half century from now. My fellow citizens are being ordered to accept impoverishment for a policy that won’t save a single polar bear.

I called up Letterman, and I'm like, Dave how about a couple Obama zingers for the roast tonight? He's like, "no, no, too controversial. Everybody loves him." And so I'm like, how about if I just insult America? So he's like, "yeah, sure, that's fine."

Okay then, here's one: man, that America is one stupid country.

Wanda Sykes Is A Genocidal Black Racist, Wants White People To Die

...or something like that.  I'm pretty sure that's EXACTLY what she said at The White House Correspondent's Dinner this weekend.  I mean, if she's going to take Rush Limbaugh's remarks out of context, then turnabout IS fair play right?

If a conservative had said something like this the press would be in a full court press to ruin their career, but since this benefits their agenda it quietly gets swept under the rug.

Media bias?  WHAT media bias?

UPDATE: Let me elucidate this post just a smidge for any who missed or forgot the whole Rush vs. Obama thing, or for those liberals who lose their sense of humor when political correctness is challenged:

1. Rush Limbaugh said he wanted OBAMA (a politician attempting to change America into a European style socialist state) to fail.  Rush feels (like many others, including myself) that the only way for America to succeed is for Obama (as a POLITICIAN) to fail.
    
2. Wanda Sykes either deliberately or out of extreme ignorance took Rush out of context and said he wanted AMERICA to fail (a falsehood invented by the MSM/DNC Cabal during the original brouhaha).  Sykes then remarked that she wanted Rush's kidneys to fail. 
    
3. Now, since kidney failure can result in death, and since Rush is white, Wanda must want white people to die right?  Hence my post.

John Hawkins penned an editorial last week for Pajamas Media advising conservatives to start adopting the dirty (aggressive) tactics of the left before they go the way of the dodo bird.  Another columnist there took an opposing view, and on Friday Mr. Hawkins published his rebuttal:

[..] George Bush promised a “new tone” and he delivered it. He probably took more unjustified abuse, slander, and hatred without complaint than any other man in American history. Then we had John McCain, who ran such an unfailingly polite campaign that it made conservatives want to pull their hair out. The result? Bush left office with a 25% approval rating and John McCain was easily defeated by a political novice completely unqualified to be president. How well did “being nice” work out for them?

If “insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results,” then aren’t we crazy to keep standing by while the Left targets conservative women, college students, and our spokesman, while we pat ourselves on the back for being “better than they are” because we let them do it?  

Bullseye.

Jon Stewart Is A "Useful Idiot"

...and Bill Whittle pretty much proves it in his latest video commentary for PJTV.  Bill takes The Daily Show host apart for calling Harry Truman's decision to drop atomic bombs on Japan a criminal act. 

This assertion is just moronic, assuming you have any grasp of the history of WWII.  Countless lives were saved by the bombings, but that doesn't stop snarky liberals like Stewart from trying to rewrite history to suit their political agenda.  Whittle sets the record straight for us.

I'm really impressed.  These people probably had no idea their clip would be used this way, and that's the beauty of it.  Wouldn't you love to see the look on their faces when they see what somebody made with their little video?

The American Descent

This rant was posted on the Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler yesterday, and it was too good to pass up so I added a few photos to spruce it up and posted it here on the blog for future reference. 

If you read any objective book about the United States role in World War II you will see that it was our industrial might that most concerned the Axis. We were the manufacturing giants of the world, and we turned all our production towards defeating the Axis of evil. Our companies manufactured jeeps, tanks, LCVPs, trucks’ planes, and other instruments of war…..heck, I have an old WW2 M1 bayonet that was manufactured by Union Fork and Hoe, a farming tool company. It was our production might, and our ability to turn that production over to the winning of the war that turned the tide. We overwhelmed our enemy by sheer production numbers, a good example being how a second rate tank like the M4 sherman prevailed over far superior German armor, we just swamped the Tigers and Panthers with numbers……It was our industrial might, and belief in our nation and it’s cause that won the day.

Fast forward to 1960, and a new president makes a promise that America will put a man on the moon by the end of the decade. With our technological and industrial superiority, and our belief in America’s ability to meet this challenge…..we did it in less than 9 years…..and we did it 6 times. We were well on the way to the vision realized in the book and movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. It was a vision that had us leading mankind into the heavens, breaking the restraints of this planet and taking the steps to building new worlds. We were leaders, we were explorers, and we were great.

But something happened to us as a people and a nation, something that restrained us and curbed our boldness as leaders and innovators and liberators. We became timid, and wracked with guilt and self accusation, and we grew uneasy about our role as the shining light of the world. We became obsessed with how the rest of the world perceived us, whether they liked us or not, and we became contrite. Couple that with the stifling of our industry by oppressive unions and government restraints, and the engine of democracy that was America began to slow to a crawl. Exploration and innovation and industrial might withered…..it was too expensive, and we needed that money to prop up a growing dependant class who couldn’t or wouldn’t support themselves. After all, we thought, shouldn’t everyone share in the dream of America?….shouldn’t everyone benefit from the sweat and labor of those who take care of themselves, and work hard to support their families?….and shame on you hard working Americans who want to keep your hard earned money to spend on your children’s education and your house payments….don’t you know we need that money to pay the hotel room rates for the displaced ungrateful Katrina welfare spongers?

Our new collective guilt, and the lust of politicians to enslave the dependant class as a voter base guaranteed that our forward progress and role as a world leader would no longer be a priority. The new priority is the expansion of government into every aspect of American life….from how much of our wages we take home, to what kind of light bulbs we use, to taxing us for using plastic bags at the grocery store….to telling corporations who their CEO is and what kind of products they can produce. We can’t innovate or explore without the approval of this or that bureaucracy…..we can’t wage total war on the enemies of freedom loving people lest we offend them or violate their human rights. We can’t lead the world forward anymore, it’s not our place to do so…..it’s too imperialistic.

So rather than offend anyone with our arrogance. We’ll abandon our role as the world leader, we’ll stop climbing the stairway of progress and freedom, we’ll stop extending our hand back to those struggling behind us….and exhorting them to “follow us!!!” We’ll allow ourselves to be drug back down to the cellar by those who are jealous of our freedoms and goodness. The dream of America is considered a quaint and antiquated notion today. We live in a world that doesn’t require a leader anymore, it doesn’t “require” a guarantor of freedom anymore, it is a world that requires a diaper change….being cowed as it has into perpetual navel gazing and hand wringing.

On the frickin' money.  America started it's long, slow slide into the dustbin of history right about the time all the hippies got the right to vote or went into journalism.  Coincidence?

Jack Kemp

Jack Kemp, Republican stalwart, and one time leader of the conservative supply side movement, has passed away.  Details from Associated Press:

Jack Kemp, the former pro quarterback who turned fame on the gridiron into a career in national politics and a crusade for lower taxes, has died of cancer at age 73.

Family spokeswoman Marci Robinson said Kemp died shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday, surrounded by his family and pastor. Kemp died at his home in Bethesda, Md., in the Washington suburbs, friends said.

Kemp's office announced in January that he had been diagnosed with an unspecified type of cancer. By then, however, the cancer was in an advanced stage and had spread to several organs, former campaign adviser Edwin J. Feulner said. He did not know the origin of the cancer.

Kemp, a former quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, represented western New York for nine terms in Congress, then left the House for an unsuccessful bid for the Republican nomination for president in 1988.

Eight years later, after serving a term as President George H.W. Bush's housing secretary, he made it onto the national ticket as Bob Dole's running mate against President Bill Clinton's bid for re-election.

I was priviliged to have worked on the 96 campaign trip through our area (back when I was just a young Republi-dude) and I recall that Mr. Kemp was really down to earth, approachable and a genuinely nice guy.  He will be missed by many, I'm sure.

At some point during the day he tossed me a really cool Dole Kemp '96 mini football which I still have.  Too bad I didn't ask him to autograph it.

The conservative movement has lost an icon today. I wonder who will pick up the standard? Lord knows we need some leaders, but I doubt we'll see one quite like Jack Kemp anytime soon.

Heidi Montag

I know everybody likes to rag on her for the contrived paparrazzi photo-ops, but I've always thought Heidi Montag was pretty fine.  I've never actually seen an episode of her TV show (MTV's "The Hills") so all I know about her is from various websites like TMZ or The Superficial.

What I DO know is that she's one of the few young conservatives in Hollywood with the courage to go public.  So let's all give a warm welcome to this fine Republican babe here at Woody's Place.

Ann Coulter On Palin In Time Magazine

Time Magazine's annual 100 Most Influential People issue is coming out soon, and (surprise surprise) they included several conservatives on the list.  They also invited fellow conservatives to write the accompanying profiles. 

Here's Ann Coulter's take on Sarah Palin:

John McCain was so preposterous a candidate (at least on a Republican ticket) that Palin was responsible for far more votes than the usual vice-presidential candidate. The biggest red flag proving her popularity with normal Americans is that liberals won't shut up about her. Palin is a threat to liberals because she believes in God and country and family — all values liberals pretend to believe in but secretly detest. There's a reason there's no "Stop Olympia Snowe before it's too late!" movement.

The American voter can be hornswoggled occasionally, but we can generally spot a real American, and that's what Sarah Palin is. She really was a housewife who went into politics because she didn't like the way her taxes were being spent. She really did take on the old-boy network — the oil companies and her own party — and won. And yes, she really did walk the walk on abortion when she found out she was carrying a Down-syndrome baby.

The combination of Palin's attractiveness as a candidate and her ability to expose liberals made her a celebrity among Republicans. The only thing I have against her is that she threatens to surpass me in attracting the left's hatred.

Ann is right on the money as always.
