Okay... let's read that headline once more before we proceed so we can really savor the irony of the President who spent 3.5 trillion dollars in just his first year now wanting to find ways to reduce government spending?
Perhaps he should just go back to Chicago? I have a feeling that would be a really good start.
From the New York Times:
President Obama plans to create a bipartisan commission to make recommendations to Congress on ways to reduce the federal budget deficit under an agreement reached Tuesday night at the White House.
Why the bi-partisan? Wasn't it the Democrats who were voted in to bring change to Washington?
Oh, I see, it's bipartisan just to give the Democrats some political cover in this year's election. Hey, even the Times admits as much:
In the short run, such a commission would buy time for the White House and Congress, putting off decisions until after this year’s midterm elections while the commission deliberates.
As far as I'm concerned they spent all that money, so they need to live with the consequences. Let them be hoisted by their own petard.
I also think any Republican lawmaker who joins this panel, thereby helping to insulate Dems from the mess they've created, is a traitor to his party and should be voted out of office.
